Train Locomotive Large Bronze Bell Indianapolis Indiana

$5,495.00

Original Large Bronze Locomotive, Train Bell.

Manufacturer: Transportation Devices, Inc.
Period: 1922 - 1935
Origin: Indianapolis, Indiana
Date: 1920s

This remarkable bronze locomotive train bell is a striking example of early 20th-century craftsmanship. Retaining its original and beautiful patina, this bell features a rich texture that only time can grace.

Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 16 ½ inches

  • Height: 14 inches

  • Total Length: 25 inches

  • Total Height: 24 inches

The bell is adorned with a series of six stamped numbers on the top, indicative of its fascinating history. These numbers—1 - 8 - 1, over 2 - 8, over 5 - 7 - 1—suggest that this bell was repurposed from another train, a practice common when locomotives were switched. The initial stamps can still be discerned beneath the new markings, adding to its historical intrigue.

One of the highlights of this piece is its original pull arm, a feature often lost over the years. This arm allows the bell to be operated manually or by steam, enhancing its functionality and appeal to collectors.

The aesthetic appeal of the bell is best captured in the first two photographs, showcasing its rich color. Please note that a scratch in the patina is visible in the first image, a testament to its age and journey.

With the marking "Trans. Devices, Indianapolis, #128460," this bell stands as an excellent representation of its era, remaining in impressive condition for its age.
